Minnesotans can view and comment on the DNR’s new deer plan over the next month.
Wildlife Population Manager Leslie McInenly says one goal of the plan is to keep that kind public engagement strong even after the comment period through the creation of a statewide deer impact group and other smaller scale meetings with area wildlife managers.
Along with public engagement, McInenly says the plan sets a target harvest of 200,000 deer and outlines how license dollars are spent on improvements for the deer hunt statewide. Authors are also hopeful the plan will provide a clearer picture of the state’s deer population by expanding the number of components the DNR is able to monitor.
