The Minnesota D-N-R is reinstating mineral leases so the bankrupt Essar Steel project in Nashwauk can proceed under new owners. It’s been over a year since a federal judge in Delaware gave the go-ahead for Chippewa Capital Partners to revive the stalled project and the Minnesota D-N-R said today the company has satisfied all of the terms for reinstatement of the leases. Governor Mark Dayton is thanking Chippewa for its continued commitment and says the company’s success will bring new jobs and economic vitality to the Iron Range.
