Top officials in the Minnesota D-N-R are sending condolences to family, colleagues and friends of Red Lake Conservation Officer Shannon “Opie” Barron, who died Sunday night after a medical emergency. 48-year-old Barron had just finished responding to a call of suspected illegal harvesting near Highway 89 when he requested emergency medical services, saying he wasn’t feeling well. D-N-R Enforcement Director, Colonel Rodmen Smith says Barron “proudly served the Red Lake Nation for 19 years, working tirelessly to protect not just its natural resources, but also its people.”
