Officials are taking public comment through September 27th on the environmental impacts of “Plan B” for the controversial Fargo-Moorhead flood diversion project. Minnesota D-N-R Commissioner Tom Landwehr says the revised plan “goes a long ways” toward addressing Minnesota’s concerns about downstream flooding. He says it will “re-balance those impacts substantially, taking much pressure off of Minnesota.”
Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney says while not a done deal, the draft environmental impact statement is good news. “If it shows you a plan that could work, that’s optimistic for us,” Mahoney says.
A public meeting is September 13th in Moorhead. A federal judge halted the 2.4-billion-dollar diversion project last year after Minnesota officials objected.
