The Electric Fetus music and gift store in the heart of downtown Duluth (at Superior Street and Lake Avenue) is closing for good, its owners say because of the pandemic, a changing retail environment, a water main break and road construction on Superior Street. The store has been a fixture in the port city for 33 years as the gateway to what became the funky arts district of East Superior Street. At one point the store operated on two levels, with the lower opening onto Michigan Street, also known as Bob Dylan Way. Locals and tourists strolling the avenue named after Duluth’s native son could walk directly into the “Fetus” and often find Bob Dylan’s albums — in vinyl, no less — waiting for them in the bins.
