House Minority Leader Melissa Hortman (D-Brooklyn Park)
The furor continues at the State Capitol over House Democratic Leader Melissa Hortman’s comments urging the “100-percent white male card game” in the back room to pay attention to what women and people of color were saying on the House floor. Hortman refuses to apologize and hundreds at a State Capitol rally today cheered her for it. Hortman says, “You have to call bullshit when you see bullshit. And we see plenty of it.” House Speaker Kurt Daudt responds Republicans are committed to uniting Minnesotans, but Hortman by her comments “obviously wants to keep it alive. That’s fine, but it’s a divisive issue and she’s trying to divide not only the legislature but she’s trying to divide Minnesotans, and I just… don’t have time for it.” Daudt called it a “sideshow,” saying he respects what Hortman is trying to do but “it’s time to move on now.”
