The dust-up continues at the State Capitol after House Democratic Minority Leader Melissa Hortman, during Monday’s debate on a protester penalty bill, said she hated to “break up the 100-percent white male card game in the retiring room, but… this is an important debate.” Hortman added she’s “really tired of watching women of color in particular being ignored.”
House Republican Majority Leader Joyce Peppin responds, “I don’t think that’s true. Both sides are guilty of not always paying attention 100 percent. Both sides are guilty of using the retiring room. Both sides are guilty of going to the bathroom and eating lunch.” Peppin says it’s not right to accuse one group of not listening because of the gender or race of another group.
