Timberwolves Notes
Player Notes
• Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves once again tonight with a game-high and season-high 44 points on 16-of-30 shooting, including 6-of-13 from deep and five rebounds, marking his fourth 40+ point game of the season (23rd career) and fourth 40+ point/5+ rebound game of the season (20th career). Edwards played all 29 minutes of the second half and overtime tonight against the Pelicans, becoming the first Wolves player to play the entire second half and all overtime since Corey Brewer and Ricky Rubio on March 19, 2014.
• Edwards’ layup with 2.3 seconds left in regulation to tie the game was his first game-tying or game-winning field goal made in the final three seconds of a game in his NBA career.
• Edwards has now totaled 230 points over his last six games, the most points scored by a Timberwolves player over a six-game span.
• Tonight marked Edwards’ sixth straight 30+ point game and 11th of the season (103rd career). The six consecutive 30+ point games are the longest such streak of his career and ties Kevin Love (six games from Feb. 10 – 25, 2014) for the longest streak of 30+ point games in franchise history.
• Edwards has now finished with 30+ points and 4+ made threes in six straight games becoming the fifth different player in NBA history to have 30+ points and 4+ made threes in six consecutive games. He joins James Harden, Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard and Trae Young.
• Edwards tallied 30 of his season-high 44 points in the second half of tonight’s game, tied for his most points scored in a second half and the third time doing so in his career. His three 30+ point second halves are the most in Timberwolves history.
• Rudy Gobert ended tonight’s game with 26 points on 9-of-10 shooting and a team-high 13 rebounds, his first 25+ point/10+ rebound game of the season (25th career). Tonight marked Gobert’s third 25+ point on 90%+ shooting and 10+ rebound game in a Wolves uniform. No other player in team history has more than one such game.
Team Notes
• After trailing by as many as 15 points tonight to the Pelicans, Minnesota came back and won 149-142 in overtime. This marked the Wolves’ third consecutive 10+ point come-from-behind win after erasing a 10-point deficit to the Spurs on Sunday and a 12-point deficit on Saturday against the Celtics. The Wolves had not collected a 10+ point comeback this season prior to last night’s comeback win against the Celtics. Tonight marked the first time in Timberwolves history that the team has won three or more straight games when trailing by 10+ points in all three since they did so in three straight games from Jan. 31, 2010 – Feb. 6, 2010.
• The Timberwolves outscored the Pelicans 20-13 in overtime, the most points the Timberwolves have ever scored in overtime. The previous record was 19 (5x; MR: Dec. 30, 2019 vs. Brooklyn).
