A newly-conservative U-S Supreme Court today hears oral arguments on Republicans’ push to abolish the Affordable Care Act, one week after Americans elected a new president who promised to expand the controversial health care legislation. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is among those who want Obamacare kept in place. “The American people voted to keep and build on the Affordable Care Act,” Ellison says, “as much as they voted for a man named Joe and a woman named Kamala, they voted for the preservation of their health care.”
In 2017 Republicans eliminated the tax penalty for not having health insurance. Republican states, led by Texas, argue with zero penalty that tax is unconstitutional and the entire Affordable Care Act should also be eliminated.
