An environmental group is criticizing Ivanka Trump for visiting a Duluth outdoor gear company Monday, where the owners signed the administration’s pledge to expand worker training programs. Former D-N-R Commissioner Tom Landwehr, who now heads Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters, points to the Trump administration’s push for the Twin Metals copper-nickel mine near Ely saying, “It’s particularly appalling that they should come here and purport to support American and Minnesota jobs in an area where they’re gonna devastate the local economy that is dependent on the Boundary Waters.”
Backers of Twin Metals respond that project has received rigorous environmental review and will bring badly-needed jobs to northeastern Minnesota.
