A group called Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness and other organizations say they will sue after the U-S Interior Department reinstated mineral-rights leases for Twin Metals, which wants to build a copper-nickel mine near Ely. The group says it represents the 70 percent of Minnesotans opposed to mining near the B-W-C-A Wilderness. Those mineral-rights leases were denied in the final weeks of the Obama administration. Backers of the project say new technology will protect the surrounding waters, and the project will bring much-needed jobs to northeastern Minnesota.
