An Air Force veteran from Fargo is setting up a non-profit for military members suffering effects of “burn pit” exposure. Burn pits were a common way to get rid of waste on military bases in Iraq, Afghanistan and southwest Asia. Entertainer and motivational speaker Mark Lindquist says expired medication, styrofoam containers, plastic bottles and unexploded ordinance were all doused with jet fuel and set on fire. Lindquist says a close friend was among soldiers who died mysteriously after returning home from active duty. He says many people don’t know the V-A has a registry for soldiers who suspect they may be affected. Lindquist says he may ask for help from corporate sponsors and organize benefit concerts across the country.
