A Fargo woman and a Moorhead man are facing multiple charges, including attempted kidnapping, after an incident in Kentucky.According to the Murray, Kentucky Police Department on Saturday, an officer responded to a call of a welfare check on a juvenile in a parking lot. When the officer arrived on scene, he approached the driver side and made contact with the driver, 38-year-old Tara Wieland of Fargo. The office noticed Wieland was attempting to conceal a pistol on her lap with her purse. The officer requested she place her hands on the steering wheel but Wieland ignored his commands and attempted to reach under her purse. The officer was ablse to grab her arm and remove her from the vehicle. After a brief struggle, the officer was able to arrested her.
In the backseat of the vehicle with the juvenile female was 19-year-old Daniel Carlson of Moorhead. He was also arrested.
The Murray Police Department learned that Wieland, Carlson and the juvenile had left Moorhead a few days prior with the intent of going to Tennessee to kidnap Wieland’s youngest daughter, who she no longer has custody of. It was also learned the pistol was stolen out of Moorhead and while in Murray, the three had broken into vehicles and stole additional items.
Wieland is facing charges of attempted kidnapping, fleeing police, assault, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm by a convicted criminal, endangering the welfare of a minor and theft.
Carlson is facing charges of attempted kidnapping, forgery and theft. Thanks to MNN Affiliate KFGO
