Congress could vote soon–as early as today a new farm bill. U-S Senator Tina Smith is confident the bill will pass and be signed into law by year’s end. She says “Minnesotans should realize that this bill is a significant piece of legislation that touches the lives of really every person every day in Minnesota and around the country. There are very important provisions here that will help new and beginning farmers get going.” Senator Smith calls the “a real model of bi-partisanship, what we were able to accomplish together with Republicans and Democrats for the good of rural America, for the good of nutrition programs, for the good of conservation, for the good of our farmers and ranchers and food producers.” The nearly 550-page bill drops a proposal to tighten food stamp requirements. And it also offers some financial security for farmers suffering as a result of tariffs on Chinese products. Here’s more with Senator Smith on the farm bill:
