Farmfest grabs political spotlight this week with U-S Senate, gubernatorial debates

August 6, 2018 By Bill Werner

This Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the small southwest Minnesota community of Morgan becomes the political focus of the state when the candidates converge on FarmFest near Redwood Falls.  Tuesday morning, Democratic Senator Tina Smith and Republican challenger Karin Housley square off along with Richard Painter, a former member of the George W. Bush administration who’s running against Smith in next week’s primary.  Tuesday afternoon there’s a debate between candidates for U-S House in Minnesota’s 1st District: Democrat Dan Feehan, GOP-endorsed candidate Jim Hagedorn and Republican challenger Carla Nelson.

Wednesday morning it’s the candidates for governor: GOP-endorsed candidate Jeff Johnson, Republican challenger Tim Pawlenty, DFL-endorsed candidate Erin Murphy, and Democratic challengers Tim Walz and Lori Swanson. Thursday morning, Senator Amy Klobuchar debates Republican challenger Jim Newberger.
