Today’s court hearing is canceled after Governor Tim Walz eased COVID restrictions on religious gatherings, but a group of several churches and small businesses will continue their lawsuit in federal court. Attorney Doug Seaton with the Upper Midwest Law Center says his clients are glad for a partial victory — however, “The governor’s order is not sufficient to provide equal rules for all: for the churches, for the small businesses, for everyone.”
The governor said last weekend when he announced the relaxed restrictions, “The desire to get people back cannot override the ability to keep the community safe, and those most vulnerable safe.”
In person religious services are allowed to resume tomorrow (Wed), limited to 25 percent capacity with a maximum of 250 people in a single enclosed space.
