A new survey finds only 28 Minnesota school districts are asking voters this fall to approve property tax increases to cover operating expenses — the lowest number in over 30 years. The Minnesota School Boards Association says it’s because a record 90 percent of operating levy requests were approved last year, plus school districts don’t want questions on the ballot during a presidential election which they say could “drown out information about the levy.” As for bond referendums, 10 are on the ballot in November, with the biggest asks being 104 million dollars for a new high school in Saint Cloud and 79 million for a new Worthington high school. Of 24 bond referendums earlier this year across Minnesota, only 11 passed.
