State Representative Erin Murphy is kicking off her campaign for governor with a pledge to make health care affordable for Minnesotans. Murphy, a Democrat from St. Paul, says “however we do it, whether it is with MNsure or… another means — a public option, or entrance into Minnesotacare — I think what’s important at the end is that people have access to affordable coverage and that they get the care that they need.” She says health insurance companies are making a lot of money from public programs, while at the same time stepping away from commitments made to the people of Minnesota. “That is frustrating to me,” says Murphy, “and if I’m governor, we’re gonna strike a better deal with those entities here in Minnesota.”
The Minnesota Jobs Coalition says Murphy played a part in skyrocketing health care costs by voting to bring Obamacare to Minnesota. Murphy is the first to enter the race for governor in 2018, but others are expected in the coming months.
