First District Minnesota Congressman Jim Hagedorn disclosed Wednesday that he was diagnosed with stage-four kidney cancer about a year ago and has received treatment at Rochester’s Mayo Clinic. 57-year-old Hagedorn says one year later he feels great, continues to perform his job in Congress unimpeded, and is a candidate for re-election. Hagedorn’s doctor says he has “responded well to immunotherapy, which has been key to his recovery. He is doing well.” Hagedorn says he got the diagnosis two months after marrying state Republican Party Chair Jennifer Carnahan, and just six weeks into his term as congressman. He says, “Guided by the Good Lord’s healing hands, the treatments are helping my body’s immune system identify and kill the cancer cells.”
