State Senator Michelle Fischbach, who’s now lieutenant governor, says she will *not* accept the roughly 83-thousand-dollar annual salary for that position. The Paynesville Republican says she’ll continue serving in the state Senate, with two years remaining in her term. Democrats respond the Constitution prohibits Fischbach from holding two offices simultaneously and they’ve threatened to take her to court. Top D-F-Lers warn if Fischbach casts votes when the legislature comes back into session in late February, legislation could be unraveled if the court later rules she can’t serve in the Senate while she’s lieutenant governor. Fischbach indicated if she’s forced out of the Senate, she’ll run for her old seat in a special election and, if she wins, resign as lieutenant governor.
