Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is urging real change, in response to George Floyd’s death apparently at the hands of Minneapolis police. Ellison says, “At some moment, …the criminal and civil rights process will be concluded. But will we have made any real substantive changes, or will we just be setting ourself up for it to happen all over again?” A task force Ellison spearheaded has made a number of recommendations for law enforcement, legislators, communities and other stakeholders.
Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan says, “Normal, quote-unquote, means that black and brown bodies are not safe…. We cannot get back to normal. We must get back to better.”
