Flash flood warnings have been issued and roads are closed in some areas after three to five inches of rain fell this morning across sections of northern Pine and southern Carlton counties in Minnesota and Douglas County in Wisconsin. Steve Gohde with the National Weather Service in Duluth says communities near the Nemadji River are immediately affected. “The crest is gonna be pushing downriver throughout the night tonight,” he says. “We expect to see rises continuing overnight. The town of Superior may have some impacts starting early tomorrow morning.”
Gohde says they expect rising river and stream levels in a wider area as the water works its way toward Lake Superior and south into the Saint Croix River. Areas near the Kettle and Snake rivers could be affected. Gohde says it’s not clear yet what will happen around Mora and Pine City. Some areas in southeast Aitkin County have water over the road.
