Despite an improving economy, food shelf use remains high across the state. Suzanne Shatilla is with Minnesota FoodShare and says “they had hoped after the recession ended it would mean that fewer families were turning to food shelves for help. She says unfortunately they are still seeing numbers that are pretty high — as high as they were at the peak of the recession.” Shatilla says they are still seeing between three and three-and-a-half million visits to the state’s food shelves each year.
