Former DNR commissioner calls Ivanka Trump visit to MN “appalling”

July 27, 2020 By Bill Werner

The head of the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters, former D-N-R Commissioner Tom Landwehr says today’s visit by Ivanka Trump and U-S Interior Secretary David Bernhardt is a reminder of how the Trump administration has corrupted the environmental process and cut protections. Landwehr says, “To go into a business that ostensibly is supported largely by wilderness explorers is really just kind of appalling.”

Protesters chanted and yelled outside the Duluth Pack store in Canal Park this morning, as the owners of that outdoor gear company signed the Trump administration’s pledge to expand programs that educate and train American workers. Ivanka Trump is in Bloomington this afternoon for the opening of a first-of-its-kind office, one of seven which will investigate cases involving missing and murdered indigenous women and girls. It’s in response to the high rate of violence experienced by Native Americans.
