Former Governor Tim Pawlenty today took a major step toward again running for governor by officially filing a campaign committee, and says he’ll make a final announcement soon. Republican state Representative Nick Zerwas from Elk River supports Pawlenty’s candidacy, saying Democrats will have a strong rival with significant funding. Zerwas says, “Tim Pawlenty is the best-suited Republican to match those resources dollar-for-dollar. He has the experience of delivering a statewide message. I think he’d be a fantastic candidate.”
There’s no comment yet from Republican front-runner Jeff Johnson, who received 45 percent in a straw poll at the February precinct caucuses.
