Former Minnesota First Lady Jane Freeman, wife of former Governor Orville Freeman and the mother of Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman, has died at the age of 96. Mrs. Freeman was instrumental in founding the modern D-F-L Party in Minnesota, she helped establish the Freedom from Hunger Foundation and was the Girl Scouts’ national president from 1978 to 1984. Mike Freeman says his mother “proved that you didn’t have to be loud to be passionate, but employed her gentle manner to fight for labor, ending hunger, lifting up girls and women and making Minnesota, the nation and the world a better place.” A memorial service for Jane Freeman will be Saturday, April 7th in Minneapolis.
