State Representative and former Minnesota House Speaker Paul Thissen announced this morning he’s running for governor, joining an increasingly crowded field of Democrats vying for their party’s endorsement. Thissen was first elected to the Minnesota House in 2002. He ran for governor in 2010 but didn’t get the D-F-L endorsement. He was House speaker in 2013 and ’14, then minority leader for two years after Republicans won control of the House in the 2014 election. So far there are five other Democrats in the race for governor: State Representatives Erin Murphy of St. Paul and Tina Liebling from Rochester, Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, State Auditor Rebecco Otto and First District Congressman Tim Walz.
