U-S Senator Al Franken is calling for an independent counsel to investigate potential ties between President Donald Trump and Russia. He says the issue is really about “a foreign power interfering with our elections and whether or not the Trump campaign coordinated with them and there are a lot of questions here.” Earlier this week, Franken said he believed Attorney General Jeff Sessions committed perjury in front of the Senate judiciary committee when he did not disclose his meetings with the Russian ambassador during the presidential campaign. Sessions has since recused himself from any investigation involving the campaign. Here is an excerpt from MNN’s Scott Peterson’s interview with Senator Franken.
Franken has put a sign-up list on his Facebook page for those who agree that there should be an independent investigation of any possible Trump/Russia connections. Republicans have called requests for such an investigation a “witch hunt” and the president has consistently denied having any ties with Russia.
