No charging decision this year in the police shooting of Justine Damond. That’s the official word from Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman. Damond was shot and killed by Officer Mohamed Noor last summer after she had reported a possible assault in her south Minneapolis neighborhood. Freeman received the case in September and had set a goal of making a charging decision by December 31st. Freeman now says further investigation is required and there is no timetable for when the decision will be made. Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo put out the following statement in response:
I am aware of the statement issued by Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman today. The tragic shooting death of Ms. Justine Ruszczyk Damond has impacted so many people here in Minneapolis and beyond our state. The MPD will continue to await the conclusion of this independent investigation and the Hennepin County Attorneys charging decision.
