A fifth-grade boy is in serious condition after he was struck by an SUV in the metro suburb of Fridley. It happened on Thursday as the boy was crossing the street. Police say the driver is cooperating with investigators and did not appear to be impaired.
A missing Austin man has been found, according to a family member’s posting on social media. 72-year-old Dennis Hanson was reported missing by his family Monday morning, prompting ground and aerial searches in the area he was last seen. There’s no immediate information on where he was found or the reason for his disappearance.
The search continues along eastern shore of Lower Red Lake for two missing fishermen. The 29- and 17-year old went into the water after their boat capsized on Monday. A third person in the vessel was rescued. Temperatures in the area this morning are below zero.
Sun Country Airlines has dropped plans for non-stop service from MSP to Cuba, citing market uncertainties and political barriers. Analysts say the two Cuba cities that the Eagan-based carrier was authorized to fly into, don’t have resort facilities that many American vacationers are looking for. Meanwhile Delta Air Lines, which flies to Havana, says it’s reviewing new Cuba travel regulations just imposed by the Trump administration.
A Saint Paul man is charged with fatally stabbing his wife’s friend in the heart after she said she would help his wife leave him. Investigators say 61-year-old Htoo Day’s wife was staying with a friend after an argument resulting from their children breaking a mirror. According to the criminal complaint, Day confronted the friend, Paw Htoo, in her apartment where witnesses say they saw him stab her. Day allegedly admitted he did it, saying he was “angry and drunk.”
The ex-principal of Whittier International School in Minneapolis has pleaded guilty to using a school district credit card to purchase items for herself. Sentencing for 56-year-old Anne DePerry is February 20th. Prosecutors say state sentencing guidelines recommend probation because DePerry has no previous record and the amount swindled was not large. DePerry now works at a charter school in California and it’s up in the air whether she will be able to serve probation time there.

The Science Museum of Minnesota reports it’s now sold 18 thousand re-issues of 1980s-era hoodies that appeared on the Netflix series “Stranger Things.” Museum officials say they’ve been inundated with requests after the sweatshirt appeared on character Dustin Henderson in the popular T-V show in late October. They say proceeds from sales of the hoodies will go to educational programs that inspire students to pursue careers in science.
