(Minneapolis, MN) — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and husband Mark Kelly are in Minnesota today (THU) to announce a new bi-partisan “Coalition for Common Sense” gun reform group. Spokesman Mark Prentice says every day a Minnesotan dies from gun violence and “as a state with a really strong tradition of responsible gun ownership, it’s a place where [Giffords and Kelly] really wanted to help convene a conversation about what we can do to keep guns out of the wrong hands.” The group will focus on expanding background checks and closing loopholes in state gun laws. In 2011, Giffords was injured and six others were killed by a gunman at a public event in Arizona.
