University of Minnesota men’s basketball standout Dawson Garcia (Savage, Minn.) has been named Big Ten’s Player of the Week, announced today by the conference office. It marks the second time Garcia has acclaimed the award and first in the 2024-25 campaign.

Last week, Garcia averaged 25.5 points, 6 rebounds and shot 58.8 from the field to lead the Gophers to a pair of wins at Iowa and home against No. 15 Oregon on Saturday. Against the Hawkeyes last Tuesday, Garcia posted a team-best 20 points as the Gophers garnered their first win in Iowa City since 2015. He followed that performance with 31 points against No. 15 Oregon as the Gophers won back-to-back home games against ranked opponents. It also marked Minnesota’s highest-ranked win in over four years. Garcia ranks third in Big Ten scoring and 21st in NCAA points per game. His 394 season points rank second in the Big Ten and 28th nationally.

Garcia’s 31 points was a season-high, his second 30-point game of the season. In 20 games this season, he has scored in double figures 17 times this season, including two 30-point games and 13 games with 20-plus points. Garcia has posted five-straight games of 20+ points, tying Amir Coffey’s streak in 2019. His 13 20-point games lead the Big Ten Conference.
