Gazelka says his comments about COVID vaccinations for lawmakers were misinterpreted

December 9, 2020 By Bill Werner

Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says his comments last week were misinterpreted: He does *not* want lawmakers to “jump to the head of the line” for vaccinations before health care workers and nursing homes. But Gazelka also argues that legislators must be able to meet safely at the Capitol. “I know that it can’t be done well with Zoom, and so we have to figure out how we get people together to pass that budget by the end of May, ’cause we don’t want to go into that mode of shutdown because state government frankly stops,” he says.

As to whether he’ll take the vaccine himself, Gazelka says he’s certainly not against it but has had COVID and is waiting to see what the data show, “for people that have had the virus, now have the antibodies, and how long do they last?”
