A bill requiring people to use bathrooms of their birth gender was up for debate in a state House committee Tuesday. Republican Representative Glenn Gruenhagen says a change is necessary because the way it is now “is forcing biologically opposite sex people into multiple use at the same time showers, dressing rooms and restrooms.”
Democrat Representative Barb Yarusso, the mother of a transgender person, said the bill tells some people they don’t have a place in our society. And she says “If my son can’t go to the men’s room with his beard, he’s not going to be able to go to the women’s room with his beard. This bill treats my son like a dog because he can’t pee inside.”
Governor Dayton has said he’d veto the bill if it reaches his desk.
