Giffords in Minnesota in February
Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is back in Minnesota this afternoon (1245pm), renewing her call to state lawmakers to take steps to keep guns out of the wrong hands. Giffords was last here in February when she and her husband, retired Navy Captain and former astronaut Mark Kelly, launched a group called Minnesota Coalition for Common Sense. Several gun measures have been introduced at the legislature, including one to expand background checks on gun purchases, but have made little headway in the Republican-controlled Minnesota House. Analysts say progress will be more difficult than usual this year because there’s an election.
