Republican House Speaker Kurt Daudt says Democrats’ resistance to improving the state’s regulatory process has resulted in Minnesota Power and Dairyland Power planning a 700-million-dollar natural gas fired power plant in Superior, Wisconsin instead of Minnesota. D-F-L Senator Erik Simonson from Duluth responds company officials told him it’s not because of Minnesota regulations. He says, “It is really about securing the best location for this particular for this particular plant based on a number of factors, not the least of which is… cost-sharing of the construction with Dairyland Co-op, which is obviously located in Wisconsin.” Daudt responds major projects like the Sandpiper pipeline, Twin Metals and Polymet have been delayed by regulatory obstacles. Simonson fires back Daudt is using the issue “to further his agenda that would roll back environmental regulations and worker protections.”
