As Governor Mark Dayton works on a proposal over the weekend to try to break the deadlock at the legislature over transportation funding, Republicans are reminding him to leave a gas tax increase out of it. Willmar Representative Dave Baker says, “Now’s not the time for a gas tax [increase]…. We’re already paying 47 cents a gallon.” House Democratic Minority Leader Paul Thissen says everyone agrees 600 million dollars a year in new money is needed to improve Minnesota’s roads and bridges, but he says Republicans have “not put a single alternative way to get there on the table. It’s really contingent on them to come forward.” Just over a week remains in the legislative session.
