Strong words and accusations flew at the State Capitol Wednesday after Governor Mark Dayton vetoed two of the legislature’s major work products in 2018 — a tax-cut bill and a supplemental budget bill. Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka said he was angry and deeply disappointed with the governor’s vetoes, and “it feels impulsive, it feels vindictive…. “Everywhere we turn, somebody is impacted because… we’re too stubborn to give in and help Minnesota, and that just angers me to no end.”
House Speaker, Republican Kurt Daudt went further, saying, “This session wasn’t a failure — our governor was a failure — and Minnesotans will be hurt because he chose politics over people.” Dayton says House Republicans “wanted the impasse. They wanted it to fail. They wanted to go out and blame on me everything that the people rightfully wanted and should have received.”
