House Republicans feel confident they’ll win their lawsuit against Governor Mark Dayton and are not planning to try to negotiate an out-of-court settlement. The dispute is over Dayton’s veto of funding for the legislature and House Speaker Kurt Daudt says, “I think that the judge in his initial decision kind of forecasted what he’s thinking, and saying that the public is entitled to a functioning legislative branch, and we hope that he will issue a swift and firm decision in our favor.
Dayton said earlier he’s within his constitutional authority in pressuring Republicans to rescind several just-enacted tax cuts and repeal two other controversial measures. A judge extended funding for the legislature until October 1st while the case is pending.
