Republicans are gleeful after Attorney General Lori Swanson didn’t receive the Democratic Party’s endorsement, the state convention in Rochester giving the nod to Matt Pelikan instead. Republicans’ candidate for A-G, Doug Wardlow, told cheering delegates at the GOP convention in Duluth that Swanson has been attorney general for 12 years but Democrats choose someone even farther left: “And it’s hard to get farther left than Lori Swanson,” Wardlow says. “They’re going off the deep end…. This opens up an even larger window of opportunity. We’re gonna take back the attorney general’s office for the rule of law and the constitution.”
Unconfirmed rumors have surfaced that Swanson could run for governor in the primary, and former state Representative Ryan Winkler could revive his campaign and run for attorney general in the August primary.
