The Minnesota Golden Gophers took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hang on and fell 8-3 to the Nebraska Cornhuskers Sunday.
Freshman Luke Ryerse (0-3) took the loss on the mound for Minnesota (22-24, ). Senior Justin Thorsteinson started the ballgame and went 5.2 innings, surrendering one run on five hits, walking none and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fifth inning. Minnesota plated two runs when sophomore Charlie Sutherland left the yard with senior Josh Fitzgerald aboard.
The Golden Gophers then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the seventh inning after the Cornhuskers cut it to 2-1. Minnesota scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Drew Berkland, which brought the Golden Gophers lead to 3-1. The Golden Gophers were unable to hold the lead, as
Nebraska scored seven times over the remaining two innings to grab the 8-3 win.
