Senior Eli Sundquist dominated on Thursday, fanning eight Michigan State hitters over 3.2 innings of work to help propel the Minnesota Golden Gophers over the Spartans 4-3.

In addition to his eight strikeouts, Sundquist (3-1) tossed 3.2 shutout innings while giving up one hit and walking none for Minnesota (23-27, 9-19). Senior Seth Clausen also made an impact on the mound for the Golden Gophers, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

At the plate, the Golden Gophers were led by freshman Jameson Martin, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Junior Weber Neels put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Sophomore Charlie Sutherland also chipped in for Minnesota, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Minnesota scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Neels.
The Spartans then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 3-1 until the Golden Gophers expanded their advantage in the second. Minnesota picked up a run on Martin’s leadoff home run off of junior Joseph Dzierwa, which brought the Golden Gophers lead to 4-1. Michigan State put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minnesota still held on for the 4-3 win. 14 76 30 30 4
