(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota baseball team upped its winning streak to five games in a row with a 7-3 win over South Dakota State yesterday in Minneapolis. Junior Matt Fiedler of Eagan collected two hits and drove home a run, and raised his season batting average to .422. The Gophers are now 19-and-10 on the season. The Jackrabbits dipped to 10-and-21. Minnesota hosts Maryland this weekend for a three-game Big Ten series at Siebert (SEE-bert) Field. Meanwhile, the number-22 Golden Gopher softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against rival Wisconsin yesterday in Minneapolis. The Badgers took the opener 6-3, taking advantage of three Gopher errors, leading to five unearned runs. Wisconsin pulled away late in the nightcap to win, 7-1. Minnesota is now 27-and-12 overall and 8-and-3 in the Big Ten. The Badgers improved to 21-16-and-1 overall and 6-4-and-1 in the league. The Golden Gophers play at Rutgers this weekend.
