(Minneapolis, MN) — Golden Gopher defensive back John Nestor recorded two interceptions, a fumble recovery, and nine tackles in helping Minnesota retain Paul Bunyan’s Axe for a second straight season and for the fourth time in the past five years. The Golden Gophers beat the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday 17-7 in Minneapolis. Nestor finished the season tied for the Big Ten lead with five interceptions. Minnesota running back Darius Taylor had 100 yards rushing, including a 49-yard touchdown run in the first half to help pave the way to victory. The Golden Gophers finished the regular season with a 7-5 overall record and a 5-4 mark in the Big Ten. They will await word on which bowl game they will be playing in. The Badgers end the season with a 4-7 overall record and a 2-8 record in the conference. Wisconsin outgained the Gophers 268-219 in total yards, but the Badgers turned the ball over three times. The all-time series lead now sits with Minnesota at 64-63-and-8 after 135 all-time meetings.
