(Minneapolis, MN) — The Golden Gopher men’s basketball team opened up the Niko Medved era in style with an 87-60 win over Gardner-Webb on Monday night at Williams Arena. Senior guard Cade Tyson led the way with 30 points as Medved got his first official win as the new head coach of the Gophers. Minnesota was up 53-20 at the half and coasted from there. The Gophers beat North Dakota State and North Dakota in the exhibition but the win over Gardner-Webb gives them a 1-0 record on the season. They’ll be back to work on Saturday when they host Alcorn State at 11 A-M on the U of M campus.
