(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota football team will have quarterback Drake Lindsey for the upcoming Rate Bowl against New Mexico on December 26th in Phoenix and beyond. The redshirt freshman quarterback confirmed that he will play in the bowl and also that he will be back with the Gophers for the 2026 season. Lindsey says he didn’t think about opting out of the bowl game and is “super excited” about playing in it. He says he finalized his plans to return for 2026 shortly after the win over Wisconsin. Lindsey says there weren’t “any other thoughts in his mind” other than coming back. He says he feels he can develop into an N-F-L quarterback with the offense the Gophers run. He says he plans to stay for another year or “two or three” under this coaching staff to take this “place to new heights.” Lindsey made his remarks on this week’s “Go Gopher Podcast.” MNN sports director Mike Grimm hosts that podcast and here’s part of the conversation:
