Minnesota softball head coach Piper Ritter has announced the addition of transfers Margaret Tobias and Presley Hosick. Tobias will join the ‘U’ after three years at Kentucky while Hosick spent the last two seasons at Cal Baptist.

In her junior season with the Wildcats, Tobias made 51 appearances with 47 starts, securing 27 hits. As a sophomore, she had nine multi-hit games including two of the last five during 2023. That same year, she scored a run in 13 games, including a season and career high two vs UIC. During her freshman season, she had 11 hits – all singles.

Tobias is a native of Urbandale, Iowa and graduated from Dowling Catholic High School. As a prep, she competed for Iowa Premier Fastpitch and was ranked as the No. 41 player in the country by Extra Innings Softball.

An addition to the circle, Hosick led the pitching staff at Cal Baptist this past season with 2.34 ERA. Through 33 appearances as a sophomore, she held a winning 13-7 record with five saves. As a freshman, Hosick had 29 appearances with 11 starts. She tossed 90.1 innings, throwing 46 Ks. For her efforts, she was recognized as WAC Pitcher of the Week in early 2022.

Hosick hails from Bakersfield, Calif., and graduated from Liberty High School. As a prep, she was named Rookie of the Year (2019), Offensive Player of the Year (2019), First Team All-League (2019), First Team All-Area (2019), and was honored as Player of the Year (2022).
