Minnesota senior gymnast Mya Hooten has been announced as an individual qualifier to this year’s NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships. She will head to Fort Worth, Texas to compete on floor in the national meet, which takes place at Dickies Arena from April 17-19.
Hooten will compete in the first semifinal session on Thursday, April 17 and will rotate with Missouri. The Tigers compete on the floor in the first rotation. Her 9.925 score on floor during the Salt Lake City Regional semifinal round last Thursday qualified her to the national meet as the top finisher from a non-NCAA Championships-qualifying team.
This will be Mya’s fourth career appearance at nationals, and second as an individual. In 2021 and 2022, Minnesota made nationals as a team. She’s a two-time NCAA Championships First Team All-American on Floor (2021, 2022) and a two-time NCAA Championships Second Team All-American on Vault (2021, 2022). Hooten went as an individual on vault in 2024, earning a score of 9.875. The score placed her in a tie for 17th in the event, narrowly missing out on what would have been her third career NCAA Second Team All-American honor in the event.
In her fourth appearance in 2025, Hooten will attempt to be Minnesota’s second national champion ever and first since Marie Roethlisberger in 1990 (uneven bars).
In 2025, Hooten was named a WCGA Second Team All-American on floor. Also this season, she won Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week twice. She has earned nine perfect 10’s in her career on floor, which is a school record. She was the first ever Golden Gopher to earn a 10 on the floor. In her five years in the Maroon and Gold, Hooten has won eight WCGA All-America honors and four NCAA Championships All-America accolades.
Minnesota (17-7, 8-1 B1G) ended its season on Saturday in the NCAA Regional Finals in Salt Lake City, Utah after posting a score of 196.825. The Gophers finished second in the Big Ten standings and placed third at the Big Ten Championships.
They made their fourth regional final in the last five years, a feat that only one other Big Ten team has completed. The Gophers finished 15th in the final Road to Nationals rankings.
