A three-goal burst from the Boilermakers in the opening half proved to be the difference as the University of Minnesota soccer team (6-3-2, 2-2-1 Big Ten) dropped a 3-0 decision to Purdue (10-1-1, 4-1-0 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon at Folk Field.

Purdue broke through in the 12th minute when McKenzie Carle converted passes from Jaiden Anderson and Emilia Deppe to put the home team up 1-0. The Boilermakers doubled their lead just over two minutes later, as Anderson found the back of the net off assists from Gabriela Angulo and Lauren Adam in the 15th minute. Irene Campo capped off the fast start for Purdue in the 22nd minute, striking unassisted to build a 3-0 advantage heading into the halftime locker room.

The Maroon and Gold continued to push late into the match, earning chances from Katelyn Rigg, Sawyer Danielson, and Hailee Christensen, but the Boilermaker defense managed to preserve the clean sheet.

Goalkeeper Sarah Martin finished with six saves in net for the Gophers on 18 total Purdue shot attempts. Four Minnesota starters, Kate Childers, Taylor Heimerl, Emily Filbrun, and Martin, played the full 90 minutes.

Minnesota returns home to Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium on Friday, Oct. 2, to host Maryland for “Rock the Robbie” night. Kickoff against the Terrapins is set for 7:00 p.m. CT.
