The University of Minnesota women’s soccer team has earned national recognition, debuting at No. 24 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
Minnesota’s schedule features five teams ranked in the top 25. The Golden Gophers will open the season on Aug. 14 against BYU, which received 12 votes in the preseason poll. Minnesota will also host several highly ranked opponents, including No. 12 Michigan State (Sept. 25), No. 23 Wisconsin (Oct. 5), No. 5 Southern California (Oct. 9), and No. 8 UCLA (Oct. 12). Additionally, the Gophers will travel to face No. 13 Iowa on Sept. 21.
The Gophers return 14 players from last season, including All-Big Ten honorees Paige Kalal and Ashley Thurk. Head coach Erin Chastain and her staff added nine freshmen and four transfers, aiming to build on last year’s Sweet 16 run.
